It's an opportunity for you to showcase your commitment and demonstrate your support for the medically underserved.

Akansha Gupta, a 15 year old girl from a small town, was run over by an 18 wheeler on January 9th 2009, and her left arm and leg were severely crushed and amputating them was the only option.  Fortunately, her parents sought a second opinion at the Ganga Ram hospital in New Delhi and the doctors were able to save her arm and leg after performing multiple surgeries.  She is currently undergoing intensive treatment of her fractures and for polymicrobial infections.   She needs another 5 to 7 surgeries over the next 18-24 months.

As is the case with most of the people in India, Akansha does not have medical insurance to cover the expenses of the surgeries.  As of date, her parents have been billed approximately $25,000 and her additional treatment would cost approximately $40,000.  Her father, a salesman who earns $100 (Rs. 5,000) a month cannot undertake these medical expenses financially.

Although we cannot help thousands of people who are suffering and are unable to get the right treatment in India, we can make a difference in this one case by helping the family monetarily.  Sahayata, a very-well known NGO that supports people afflicted by cancer, is supporting this cause and helping me raise funds for Akansha’s treatment.  I hope you will consider helping me in this deserving cause.
